Live Air Quality Monitor

Current Air Quality Index

118

Unhealthy

Good (0-50)

Moderate (51-100)

Air quality is acceptable. However, there may be a risk for some people, particularly those who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.

Air quality is satisfactory, and air pollution poses little or no risk.

Unhealthy (101 +)

Members of sensitive groups may experience health effects. The general public will still be affected, but less severely.

Important Air Quality Updates

What do these numbers mean?

The air quality index is a calculated value based off of the amount of particulate matter(specifically PM2.5) in the air. When there is more particulate matter, the air quality index increase.

The Importance of Air Quality

Why air quality is crucial for our health and the environment

Poor air quality, which has an increased amount of particulate matter (PM) can be unhealthy and potentially dangerous. PM can be inhaled into the lungs, causing respiratory issues. Smaller particulate matter can penetrate deeper into the human body, through the lungs, and into the blood stream, resulting in more significant health issues such as brain function.

With frequent wildfires and a rising amount of pollutants in the air, it has never been more important to understand the importance of the air we breath.

Sensors + Technology

To determine the air quality (amount of particulate matter in the air) the air quality sensor funnels in air that passes through beams of light. When the light beam (in this case a laser) is disrupted, it is determined that there is a particle in the air. The frequency and duration of disruptions of the lasers determine the amount of particulate matter in the air, and thus the air quality.
